5 Things to Do After Your Custom Home is Completed- Sina Architectural Design

One of the most exciting parts of building a custom home is handing the keys to the completed house to our clients. We know how thrilling it is to finally have your home after the long building process. But before you move in, there are a few things you should do.

Air it Out

That “new home” smell can be great, but most people don’t want to move into a house that reeks of fresh paint and other chemical scents. It’s a good idea to air out the home before you start moving furniture or your family in. Open up the windows, run the A/C, or even invest in a device that can remove smells.

Get it Cleaned

Custom home builders try to leave a completed home clean when they hand it off. However, there will still be some messes that can’t be helped. Dust, building particles, and other dirt will probably still be around. You can always clean this yourself, but we recommend paying a professional cleaning surface for one good deep cleaning before you move in.

Install Services

Just because a home is done being built doesn’t always mean it’s ready for your family to fully move in. Make sure that all of the necessary services are up and running. This includes insurance, security, HVAC, cable, phone lines and more. It’s a good idea to do this before you move in.

Run Appliances

Appliances are good to go pretty much the moment they’re installed. Like a new home though, they can sometimes have a bit of a smell that people don’t like. For good measure, run all appliances such as the dishwasher and washing machine at least once empty.

Take Photos

Your home will never be as clean or as fresh-looking again! Before your home gets that cozy, lived-in feel, be sure to snap a few photos of your fresh new house! It might not seem super interesting, photos of empty rooms, but we promise you’ll love looking back on these in a few years.
